Your rates are due in full on 1st January each year and include any arrears carried forward from previous years. You can pay your Commercial Rates in the following ways:
ONLINE – MyCoCo.ie
You may make Commercial Rates payments to Galway City Council online on www.mycoco.ie. This facility is available on both desktop and mobile devices.
In order to create an account on MyCoCo.ie, you will need to know your Customer Rates Account number and your PIN. You can request your PIN from Galway City Council by emailing accountsreceivable@galwaycity.ie. Your PIN will be issued to you by post.
Once registered on MyCoCo.ie, you will also be able to view your transactions, see account balances and view statements. Please note it may take up to 24 hours to view your statement and allow payments to be made.
DIRECT DEBIT
A Direct Debit is an instruction from you to your bank authorising Galway City Council to collect payments from your account when they are due. Payment is deducted from your nominated bank account on the 16th of each month.

ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER (EFT)
You may make payments directly to Galway City Council via Electronic Funds Transfer and using the bank details below.
NB If making payments by EFT, please ensure your Commercial Rates Account number is quoted on ALL your bank payments to Galway City Council to facilitate correct receipting of your payment to your Commercial Rates account.

You may make Commercial Rates payments in person at the Cash Office in Galway City Council by cash or Debit card. The Cash Office is located on the Ground Floor at Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway.

DISCHARGE OF RATES BY OFFSET
Where a Commercial Rates customer is also a supplier of goods or services to Galway City Council, the Local Authority reserves the right to apply an offset to the Commercial Rates account in accordance with Section 7 of the Local Government Rates and Other Matters Act 2019. This effectively means that the payment owed to the Rates customer may be offset against the rates due.
What happens if I don't pay my Commercial Rates?
Galway City Council are obliged by law to levy and collect Commercial Rates on commercial/industrial property. Unpaid rates have a serious effect on our ability to deliver essential services. Legal enforcement will be pursued where necessary.
