Local Economic and Community Plan

Local Property Tax

Local Property Tax (LPT) is an annual tax charged on all residential properties in the State and came into effect in 2013. A half-year payment was due in 2013, with a full-year payment due thereafter from 2014. The LPT is collected by the Revenue Commissioners.

Procurement

The term public procurement refers to all activities involved in the process of buying and supplying, goods, services or works. Galway City Council purchases a vast amount across these categories.

Property Entry Levy

The Entry Year Property Levy is a charge Galway City Council will apply to all newly erected or newly constructed commercial/industrial properties, prior to charging for commercial rates.

Receiving Payment

Following delivery of the Goods/services the supplier should issue an invoice to the Accounts Payable Section, Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway, quoting the Purchase Order number that was provided at order stage.

Supplier of Goods/Services

New Suppliers must complete and return a Supplier Set up form which will be issued by the staff member organising the purchase. Evidence of bank account details in the name of the Supplier must be provided with the form e.g. bank statement header.

The Night-Time Economy (NTE) encompasses various stakeholders and offers diverse activities such as cultural events, entertainment, hospitality, festivals, community, sports, and retail, aiming to create a safe and welcoming environment for both work and leisure between 6 pm and 6 am.

Tourism Development

St. Patrick's Day Parade

The St. Patrick’s Day parade will take place on Sunday 17th of March 2025. The parade is proposed to start at 11.00am and usually finishes at 1.00pm. The starting point will be at University of Galway and the collection point is the Black Box Car Park.
