Local authorities may provide grants to older people who own their own home for repairs or improvement works to make their privately owned home more suitable to their needs.

Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is a social housing support. HAP will replace Rent Supplement for those with a long term housing need.

The Housing Department Counter Service operates from 9.30am to 1pm Daily, Monday to Friday.

The Housing counter is located in Galway City Council offices in City Hall, College Road, Galway.

Council Housing rents are based on a system called 'differential rents'. This means that the amount of rent you pay depends on the amount of your total household income. If your income increases so does your rent, and if your income decreases, the weekly rent decreases accordingly.

Galway City Council is dedicated to improving the living standards of tenants in private rented housing. This is done, in accordance with Government Regulations, through the inspection of private rented properties.
