Local authorities, together with public transport providers, may provide park and ride facilities so that people can park their car in a designated car park and transfer to public transport.

The City Council may issue parking permits to facilitate people who are 'Residents' of Pay and Display Areas. Eligible residents may apply for the following types of parking permit:
Resident's Permit
Visitor's Permit
Carer's Permit
There are many facilities for playing football, soccer and rugby in Galway City and these facilities are subject to a Galway City Council Letting Agreement with local sports clubs.
Local authorities may provide and maintain public parks which offer facilities such as pathways, cycleways, playground, skateboarding areas, playing pitches, outdoor gyms, tea rooms, and performance and exhibition areas.
There are 30 (thirty) playgrounds in Galway City. The Recreation & Amenity Department take great pride in being a child friendly city and with 30 playgrounds/skate parks/multi use game areas, we aim to have the highest quality of maintenance in place.
