Good progress is being made on The Crescent/Sea Road Junction Upgrade Active Travel Scheme. Works on the junction have been substantially completed in advance of the Christmas period. This upgrade will provide a more convenient and safe experience for walkers and wheelers in the area.
Works completed to date include the construction of a new pedestrian (zebra) crossing on Fr. Griffin Avenue, and the tightening of the Crescent/Sea Road junction, to reduce vehicle speeds. New rain gardens have also been installed, and these will reduce surface water flooding and enhance biodiversity.
Construction activity has now been paused for the festive period. When works resume in the New Year, the project will continue with the construction of a new footpath along the west side of The Crescent, and further safety enhancements.
This project is funded by the National Transport Authority. The works are being completed by John Madden & Sons Ltd. and Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates are the Consulting Engineers, on behalf of Galway City Council.
