Scheme Overview

The works at Martin Junction saw the conversion of a busy roundabout to a four-arm signal-controlled junction, with the provision of cycle lanes, bus priority measures, footpaths, and associated landscaping.

Prior to this scheme, there were no dedicated pedestrian or cycle facilities on the Old Dublin Road. The Martin Junction Upgrade Project greatly improved this by providing footpaths and cycle lanes on both sides of the road.

The junction also connects Roscam and Doughiska to the Galway Clinic and provides for sustainable future development of the Ardaun area where up to 4000 housing units are to be provided for.

Construction on this project was completed in 2023, and the scheme was formally launched by Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Eddie Hoare and Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport and Logistics, Jack Chambers T.D., in February 2024.
