Call Out for Sounds of Climate Change

Galway City Council Arts Office invites sound artists to submit proposals for a grant to make a site-responsive artwork for the Galway Climate Festival 2024.

We are offering the Sounds of Climate Change Grant to a creative practitioner working in sound, composition, sound and music, or multimedia to make an artwork for the festival.

Reflections – A Commemoration of the Irish Women of 1923

Galway City Council, Galway Public Libraries, and Galway City Museum working together are proud to present "Reflections," a programme commemorating the remarkable Irish women of 1923 as part of the Decade of Centenaries 2012 - 2023 initiative, supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports, and Media. This multifaceted project, in development since August 2023, is a heartfelt tribute to the women who shaped Irish history during a pivotal era. It has offered a platform for in-depth discussions, artist residencies, and creative exploration of their lives and contributions. Artists in residence Áine Philips, Emily Cullen and Tracy Bruen.

Galway City to become First Local Authority to Eliminate Road Diesel in Larger Fleet

Galway City Council will become the first Local Authority in the country to eliminate road diesel in its larger fleet, by transitioning to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a renewable fuel source. HVO Eliminates up to 90% of net Carbon Dioxide emissions and reduces harmful pollutants such as Nitrogen Dioxide and particulate matter, which can cause asthma and impaired lung function and can make it difficult to breath for some of our citizens.
