Galway City Council, supported by Urban Design and Engagement specialists, Allies and Morrison, is launching an exciting project to explore local priorities to help shape the future of Salthill Village and Seafront. Throughout 2025, the project team will be out and about in Salthill and getting in touch with local community, business and leisure groups. This is an opportunity to share your views on what you love about Salthill and what improvements can be made to the area.
A number of engagement events are planned for February. The first event will be to meet with the Salthill business community on Thursday 6th February from 4.00pm to 6.00pm in the Salthill Hotel. All members of the business community are invited to come along to share their views on Salthill.
On Friday 7th February from 11.30am to 1.30pm the project team will be at Blackrock to meet with the swimming community and all swimmers are invited to come along to share their views.
Later in the month, a drop in event is scheduled for Friday 21st February from 4.00pm to 8.00pm in the Salthill Hotel to meet with local residential communities. All residents are invited to drop in to talk to the team.
The following day, Saturday 22nd February from 10.30am - 4.00pm, a pop up consultation event will be held along the promenade and all members of the public are invited to drop by to talk with the team.
Students from University of Galway will also be present. They will be asking people along the prom to undertake a short survey which will inform the project. This survey will also be available for people to complete on line.
Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive of Galway City Council said:
It is an objective of the Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029 to prepare a plan to guide the long-term development and enhancement of Salthill village and the seafront. I am excited to commence this project which will consider future investment and funding opportunities for Salthill and will facilitate an integrated approach to the many planned and future projects and initiatives. Engagement is at the heart of this process and I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to get involved and have their say.
Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane said:
Salthill is an intrinsic part of the cultural life of Galway. The Village and Seafront has a unique role in the daily lives of the people of the city and as a visitor destination. As the city grows, Salthill requires special attention to safeguard and strengthen its role as an urban village. We look forward very much to hearing all your ideas and views in 2025 to help us prepare a framework for the future of Salthill.
Antony Rifkin, Director of Allies and Morrison Ltd said:
We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the local community to reflect on what makes Salthill special, what the challenges are and what your dreams are for the future of Salthill and we look forward to working collaboratively with the local community and businesses to prepare the new framework for Salthill Village and Seafront.
Consultation will be ongoing throughout the development of the Framework Plan with additional events organised throughout the year.
