Galway City Council, in partnership with Access for All Galway City, Fáilte Ireland, Galway City Partnership, and the Disability Federation of Ireland, is pleased to announce the launch of a new Disability Awareness Training for businesses operating within the city's night-time economy. This initiative, part of the Galway City Council Night-Time Economy Action Plan 2024-2025, aims to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for people with disabilities, ensuring everyone can enjoy Galway's vibrant nightlife. This training is the first in a series aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in the night-time economy.
The first training session will take place on 20 November 2024, from 3pm to 5pm at Porter Shed a Dó, 15 Market St, Galway, H91 TCX3. The training program is designed to equip businesses with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently interact with and accommodate customers with disabilities. Developed with the expertise of individuals with lived experience of disability, the training provides practical advice and insights on:
- Understanding the diverse needs of people with disabilities.
- Effective communication strategies.
- Creating accessible environments.
- Providing excellent customer service that is inclusive for all.
"An inclusive night-time economy benefits everyone," says Kate Howard, Galway City Council, Night-Time Economy Advisor. “This training empowers businesses to tap into a wider customer base while fostering a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected. By understanding the challenges and opportunities, businesses can future-proof their operations and contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive city for all."
The training is available free of charge to businesses operating within Galway's night-time economy, including pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, promoters, cultural venues and organisations.
