Healthy Green Spaces is a new Initiative under taken by the Recreation & Amenity Dept. in 2019 and following a selection process are now working with a number of community/residents groups in the city on what is envisaged to be a five year project.
There are many facilities for playing football, soccer and rugby in Galway City and these facilities are subject to a Galway City Council Letting Agreement with local sports clubs.
Local authorities may provide and maintain public parks which offer facilities such as pathways, cycleways, playground, skateboarding areas, playing pitches, outdoor gyms, tea rooms, and performance and exhibition areas.
There are 30 (thirty) playgrounds in Galway City. The Recreation & Amenity Department take great pride in being a child friendly city and with 30 playgrounds/skate parks/multi use game areas, we aim to have the highest quality of maintenance in place.
There are two performance venues, managed and run under the umbrella of Galway City Council in Galway City - The Town Hall Theatre located in Courthouse Square in Woodquay and The Black Box Theatre located nearby on Dyke Road.
