What is Choice based letting (CBL)?
CBL is an online system that allows applicants on the housing waiting list to express an interest in homes due for letting. The allocation of the property still continues to be made in accordance with the Council’s Scheme of Letting Priorities. CBL acts as an extra filter in the Allocations process by considering only those applicants who express an interest in particular properties.
Properties are advertised periodically for a duration of one week from Wednesday until the following Tuesday. Upcoming available housing units will be advertised on cbl.galwaycity.ie and applicants will be asked to submit an expression of interest for properties for which they wish to be considered. Properties may not be displayed every week depending to availability.
Those on the Housing Waiting List can only express an interest in properties for which they are eligible in terms of the number of bedrooms and Area of Choice.
How can I access CBL?
You access the CBL system through the internet on cbl.galwaycity.ie. You can log into the CBL system on the internet via a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.
Once you have been qualified for social housing support, you will be issued a letter containing a Username and Password, along with information on how to access and use the website cbl.galwaycity.ie. There are video tutorials on the website to explain how to log in and make an expression of interest.
What types of properties are advertised on CBL?
Both local authority and Approved Housing Body (AHB) properties will be advertised on CBL. However, properties which meet the particular individual requirements which include the following classes of dwelling will not be advertised:
- Older Persons Dwellings
- Specially Adapted Housing
- Traveller Group Scheme Housing.
Properties of this nature will be allocated separately to applicants that are suited to these types of properties.
