What can the City Council do about abandoned vehicles?
In general Galway City Council is only permitted to remove vehicles from public property
The City Council will not enter private property to remove a vehicle, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
You may report an abandoned vehicle to Galway City Council and we will aim to have vehicles removed within 48 hours, where possible.
Please include the following details when reporting the vehicle
- The exact location of the vehicle
- Confirm if the vehicle has registration plates. If so, please note and confirm the vehicle registration.

If the vehicle has registration plates, Galway City Council will arrange to have the vehicle removed to the pound in the Liosbaun Industrial Estate.
The registered owner will be identified and sent a letter advising that the vehicle will be scrapped in 14 days.
A notice will be placed in the local paper 7 days before scrappage. In the case of foreign registered cars, the notice is placed in the paper only, and a letter is not sent.

Who should I report a burnt out vehicle to?
If you wish to report a burnt out vehicle please report the following information to Galway City Council.
- The exact location of the vehicle
- Confirm if the vehicle has registration plates. If so, please also confirm the vehicle registration.
Report a burnt out vehicle. Alternatively contact the Customer Service Team on 091-536595.
