About the Scheme
The scheme provides retrospective financial assistance to volunteer‑led community and voluntary groups operating in Galway City. Funding supports essential running costs already paid by groups, helping maintain inclusion, wellbeing, and resilience across the city.
Funding Available
- Up to €500 per eligible group
- Retrospective only — costs must be paid between 1 January and 31 October 2026
- Eligible costs: rent, insurance, electricity, heating, refuse, utilities
- Proof of payment is required (receipt, bank statement, online confirmation)
Who Can Apply
Eligible:
- Volunteer‑run, not‑for‑profit community groups operating within Galway City
Not eligible:
- Groups employing staff
- Individuals
- Businesses, business associations or commercial organisations
- For‑profit groups
- Groups outside Galway City Council’s administrative area

- Information webinar: 19 May 2026
- Application window: Tuesday 2 June (9am) – Monday 29 June (12pm)
- Eligible expenditure period: 1 January – 31 October 2026
- Decisions issued: Late July 2026
- Payments processed: From August 2026
- All funding must be drawn down by 31 October 2026
Evidence Required
For each cost claimed, groups must provide:
- Invoice/bill dated within the eligible period
- Proof of payment
- Short justification of how the cost supports the group’s operations
- Self‑certified declaration of need
Assessment & Prioritisation
Applications are assessed by Galway City Council with priority given to:
- Groups supporting communities experiencing disadvantage
- Groups demonstrating clear need for funding
- Volunteer‑led groups with limited fundraising capacity
Application Process
- Confirm eligibility
- Gather invoices and proof of payment
- Complete the online application form
- Submit by 12pm, 29th June 2026
- Await notification in late July
- Submit verification documents for payment
