Galway City’s highly anticipated launch of the first affordable housing units in over a decade opened at 12 noon on Thursday 13 February 2025 to impressive numbers. Within the first minute, 21 applicants had registered. Within 45 minutes, 50 fully submitted applications were recorded. These figures show an urgent need for such homes in Galway City.
This scheme in Garraí na Sailí had eight affordable housing units - interest far exceeded this number, demonstrating a highly competitive housing market. Partnered with Burkeway Homes, four two-bed and four three-bed duplex houses were for sale, with demand preference allocation showing an equal 50/50 split. This is a positive sign that future affordable housing initiatives are likely to be met with similar enthusiasm and success.
Galway City Council is currently in discussions with additional developers for further developments - all schemes will be advertised well in advance of opening dates.
