Áras Éanna Arts Centre, Inis Oírr and the Galway City Council Arts Office are delighted to announce the Pat Coleman Emerging Writer in Residence project that honours Pat, a great character and friend to the people of Galway.
Pat, who went by the names ‘Chippy’ and ‘Colie’ had a great love for sport, music and the Arts and in particular the greats of Irish literature including Behan, Kavanagh, Lavin and of course James Joyce.
Following a difficult period in hospital his wide circle of friends organised fundraising events to help with the cost of assistance for independent living. Pat passed away on the 19th December 2022.
The funds that Pat’s friends raised will now celebrate his life and love of the arts, by funding this residency. This is the first year of a three year residency programme that will offer an emerging Galway city based writer a three week residency with a stipend of €2000 at Áras Éanna Arts Centre on the beautiful inspirational island of Inis Oírr.
This is a fitting tribute to a man who was passionate about the Arts and no doubt would be humbled to know that this opportunity was being made to an emerging artist in his name.
The residency will be for three weeks in May 2025. The successful applicant will receive the following:
-
Return bus and ferry from Galway City to Inis Oírr
-
Self-catering accommodation for the duration of residency
-
