High Coastal Flooding Alert for Galway City – Sunday 20 October (due to High Tide Advisory issued by Met Eireann)
Based on Met Eireann’s current weather alerts, Galway City Council is asking businesses and residents to prepare for potentially significant coastal flooding on Sunday 20 October.
The high-risk periods are currently predicted from 6:30am to 8:30am and 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
During these times, there is a strong possibility of overtopping and flooding along the coast, the Docks and adjacent areas
The public is advised to avoid these areas.
Sandbags:
Businesses and homeowners are advised to avail of sandbags as soon as possible, from:
- Tourist Kiosk Salthill
- Claddagh Hall
- Fire Station Fr Griffin Road
- Spanish Arch
- Docks beside the Pedestrian Crossing (St Nicholas Street)
Carparks:
Carparks remain closed at:
- Salthill
- Silverstrand
- Tofts
- Ballyloughane – local access only
Road Closures:
From 10pm Saturday 19 October:
Salthill Prom from Seapoint mini-roundabout to Galway Business School – road closed until further notice.
Grattan Road from junction with Seapoint Road to Claddagh Quay junction with Fr Griffin Road – road closed until further notice.
From 12am Saturday night/ Sunday morning (19/20 October)
Dock Road closed from Wolfe Tone Bridge to Lough Atalia junction with Fairgreen Road Upper.
Including Spanish Arch, Merchants Road and Wolfetone Bridge
Road Closures may be extended at any time during this period to include:
- from the mini-roundabout at Salthill Upper/Threadneedle Road along Seapoint Promenade as far as Galway Business School
- From Wolfe Tone Bridge towards the junction of Fr Griffin Rd and Sea Road.
Motorists are requested to avoid these areas tomorrow, and to remove parked cars to avoid the impacts of potential coastal flooding.
