Scheme Overview
Galway City Council is seeking to deliver a high-quality streetscape experience in Lombard Street and the adjacent Churchyard Street and Church Lane. Under the overall heading of the Lombard Street Rejuvenation Project, these works will support a living city and enhance the walkability of the city centre through a series of public realm renewal works.
This project is being delivered by Galway City Council, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s Urban Regeneration Development Fund (URDF). This project arises from the strategic objectives of Galway City Council’s Public Realm Strategy and City Development Plan. It will focus on the quality of the public realm including the upgrading of streets and spaces.
Galway City Council’s Urbanism and Placemaking team are currently progressing the development of a tender for the appointment of an architect-led Multi-Disciplinary Design team for the design of the redevelopment works. As the project progresses throughout the design phase there will be a series of further engagements with key stakeholders and with the public.
Further updates on this project will be available via this webpage as the project progresses.
