NOTICE OF THE CONFIRMATION BY GALWAY CITY COUNCIL OF A COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER MADE UNDER SECTION 76 OF AND THE THIRD SCHEDULE TO THE HOUSING ACT, 1966, AS EXTENDED BY SECTION 10 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (NO. 2) ACT, 1960, (AS SUBSTITUTED BY SECTION 86 OF THE HOUSING ACT, 1966 AND AS AMENDED BY SECTION 6 AND THE SECOND SCHEDULE OF THE ROADS ACT 1993 (AS AMENDED) AND THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (AS AMENDED)) AS RESPECTS ALL OF THE LAND TO WHICH THE COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER RELATES, TO BE PUBLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 78(1) OF THE HOUSING ACT, 1966, AS AMENDED BY THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (AS AMENDED).
COMPULSORY ACQUISITION OF LAND
GALWAY CITY COUNCIL SALMON WEIR PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE BRIDGE COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER NO. SWB-CPO-001, 2020 IN THE CITY OF GALWAY
Galway City Council has, on 19th April 2021, made a Confirmation Order confirming without modification the above-named compulsory purchase order as respects the land described in the Schedule hereto.
The Compulsory Purchase Order is necessary for the purpose of the construction of Salmon Weir – Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge between Gaol Road and Newtownsmith in the City of Galway, together with all ancillary works associated therewith, and for the purposes of providing infrastructure to facilitate walking and cycling.
The said order, as so confirmed, authorises Galway City Council to acquire the land compulsorily described in the Schedule hereto.
A copy of the order as so confirmed and of the map referred to in it may be inspected:-
- on Galway City Council’s website at www.busconnectsgalway.ie and,
- at the Planning Offices of Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway City from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

The order, as so confirmed, will become operative three weeks from the date of publication of this notice.
An application for judicial review of the decision of Galway City Council under Order 84 of the Rules of the Superior Courts (S.I. No. 15 of 1986) may be made to the High Court within eight weeks of the date of publication of this notice in accordance with section 50 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.
