High Astronomical Spring Tides - Car parks closed

Car park at Sliverstrand after storm clean up

Galway City Council wishes to advise that there will be a period of high astronomical spring tides in the coming days.

It is likely that some wave overtopping may occur at Salthill, Ballyloughane and Silverstrand and some areas may experience localised flooding during high tide periods this evening (Thursday) through to high tide on Sunday evening.

As a precaution, Toft Park is now closed off to the public, closures will be in place at Salthill Carpark and Silverstrand for the weekend. Ballyloughane Beach Road will be for local access only.

Public are advised not to park in either of these car parks until further notice.

All road users in these areas are advised to proceed with caution. Galway City Council’s crews will be on standby and monitoring

As forecasted weather and tidal conditions are variable at this time, Galway City Council is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates.

The public is advised to exercise caution and to monitor updates in relation to weather alerts on www.Met.ie or download the Met Éireann app.
