Galway City Council Awarded €2.8million for Sports Facilities in the City under Community Sport Facilities Fund

Galway City Council is delighted to be awarded €2.8million for sports facilities in the city, under the Community Sport Facilities Fund.

This much-needed funding will be invested in facilities including Castlepark synthetic pitch; Millers Lane hockey pitch; Doughiska skate park; and Renmore Community Centre Multi-Use Games Area, among others (see full list below). The funding will also be used to provide toilet facilities for Corrib Park, McGrath’s Field, Laurel Park and O’Sullivan Park.

The award was announced as part of the largest-ever funding announcements for sports facilities by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media yesterday. 

Sports capital projects underway/ recently completed in the city, funded by the previous Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, include Droim Chaoin Multi-Use Games Area, Corrib Park Multi-Use Games Area and Corrib Park Grassed Soccer Pitch.This investment provides a significant boost in sports and wellbeing facilities for the people of Galway, with 30% match funding to be provided through Galway City Council’s income from commercial rates and local property tax.
