The Western Distributor Road (WDR) is a major arterial route in Knocknacarra.  The route of the Western Distributor Road is apx. 2.9km in length and runs from the Cappagh Road Roundabout to the West, as far as the Deane Roundabout to the East.  The route has been identified as an Urban Primary cycle route in the CycleConnects Proposed Urban Cycle Network plan.

Galway City Council is progressing plans to develop new and upgraded cycling and walking infrastructure along the Western Distributor Road, including the six current roundabouts along the route.  The enhanced facilities will be complemented by the recent upgrade works at Miller’s Lane and the proposed Bóthar Stiofáin Cycle Network (currently subject of a planning application).

This project is at concept design stage, and a number of options for this scheme are currently being developed and assessed.  This webpage will be updated to reflect updates on this scheme as it progresses.

This project is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority.
