What is the concern with Grattan Beach?

Grattan beach is a coastal beach which is heavily affected by tides. The Dunes are consistently damaged and Galway City Council in conjunction with local groups, businesses and organisations wanted to develop a roadmap to assist in the protection of the dunes, protection of biodiversity and promote the area as an exemplar for how communities and local government can collaborate to achieve joint benefits.

What is meant by nature-based solutions?

Nature-based solutions are actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural ecosystems, that address societal challenges such as climate change, human health, food and water security, and disaster risk reduction effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits.

How can communities/businesses/other groups help?

Galway City Council encourages collaboration with all projects. The roadmap includes for continuous collaboration and involvement by stakeholders and Galway City Council intend to issue various calls for assistance throughout the lifetime of the roadmap.

What is included within the roadmap?

The roadmap for Grattan beach and Dune site outlines key short, medium and long term actions that could be implemented to protect the dunes, support biodiversity whilst also ensuring access to the beach is maintained and enhanced so as people can continue to enjoy Grattan Beach at their leisure.
